Welcome

Welcome to Back Acres Farm, a brand-new horse boarding facility in beautiful unspoiled Western Massachusetts, conveniently located just 30 minutes from Northampton, Greenfield, and Pittsfield.
Back Acres has been a farm since it was first settled in 1783. The farmhouse dates from that time, as do parts of the older barn. It has been a horse farm since the early 60s when John McMahon bought it.
Plainfield children learned to ride here, and the McMahons bred, showed, and foxhunted for years. There are colonial coaching roads on the property, which extend through abutting lands over to Route 116 and down the hill to Route 9.
Parts of these roads have been cleared and made accessible for short and longer loops - available for lessons and recreation to boarders and lessons.
There are also much more extensive trails in Plainfield, and in the adjoining Hawley and Savoy State forests - enormous tracts of land which are a short hack away.
